The Bread
“Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.”
Luke 22:1-2 →
## Prepare
The Feast of Unleavened Bread is 7-days, while Passover is just one day. The Feast marks the time when the Jewish people were freed from the clutches of the Egyptians and began their journey into the Promised Land. Due to the limited time they had, the dough could not rise and thus, God said they shall eat unleavened bread (Deuteronomy 16:3). During Passover eve, it's common for a family to remove all yeast from their home. In fact, some parents will leave the yeast in hidden places within the home for the children to find. The Scriptures teach us that yeast represents sin. So the idea is that we are to remove it from our lives just as we remove the yeast from our homes. Oddly, the Priests were trying to remove the only pure and unleavened Bread from their home while keeping the bread with yeast. They wanted to remove the Bread that would nourish their soul and give them life with the Father.
## Self-Check
Jesus called Himself the Bread of Life (John 6:35); and then tells the people they must eat "My flesh and drink my blood" for eternal life. Today, let us thank God's Son for becoming the bread we could never be, and because we have taken part with Him in communion, we are made pure in the eyes of the Father.
