Dinner’s at 7, Justice Will Be Served

“And Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then, arraying him in splendid clothing, he sent him back to Pilate. And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before this they had been at enmity with each other. Pilate then called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was misleading the people. And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither did Herod, for he sent him back to us. Look, nothing deserving death has been done by him. I will therefore punish and release him.””

## Mockers’ Mouths

In this section of Luke, we’ve looked at Pilate’s “hands off” approach. Like many non-believers, he tries to hold no opinion on Jesus to the good or the bad. But even worse, there are believers like Herod trying to force Jesus into certain actions whenever they yank His chain. But there is another kind… Mockers know Who Jesus is and treat Him as a joke. And while mockers’ mouths run rampant, He kept His mouth shut. And I don’t mean from Herod. He kept His mouth shut from calling the armies of heaven to His defense to show His rank in the heavens! He kept His mouth shut from His own words of power to show His authority!

## Buddy Systems

One thing I see here that tends to tick me off is the friendship that forms in the levels above us- management levels, political levels. All too often the show is being running by a bunch of buddies or entire families who have jobs in the upper part of an organization. A friend of mine in a tough spot with his job has said to me in the past, “I wish half the stuff I knew would become exposed openly.” But then again, I could easily be talking about the company I work for or the one you work for.

The question on our hearts is “When will justice ever be served?” I could only say to that friend, “It didn’t look like God was protecting

## Jesus either.”

## Self-Check

But Jesus will not call the armies of heaven to His side. He led them, and they will follow Him from behind (Rev.19:14). He will open His mouth one day! Revelation 19:15 “From His Mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations...” Jude 14-16 “...Enoch...prophesied... ‘The Lord came with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on...all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.’...they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.” “It’s all in who you know” used to bother me, until I realized the deal I have with God is based on Who I know too... Jesus Christ.
