The Narrow Door
“He went on his way through towns and villages, teaching and journeying toward Jerusalem. And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the master of the house has risen and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, open to us,’ then he will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’ In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out. And people will come from east and west, and from north and south, and recline at table in the kingdom of God. And behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.””

## Teaching As He Went
God has a destination for each of us. Jesus knew His destination geographically ended at Jerusalem. We may not necessarily know where on the map ours ends, but as He went, so should we. How did He go? Through towns and villages- teaching. I’ve met Christians who’ve said they would witness to people when they knew more about the Bible. But they didn’t read it daily or hardly ever, so when do you think this is going to happen? Still waiting.
## Obeying As We Go
As Jesus is going along, someone asks a question about the division of people; about entering heaven. As always, He appears at first glance not to answer, but really His answer hinges on obedience. I notice something here; the Lord’s “I don’t know you” is answered by people saying, “But we ate and drank with You.” That’s it? You ate at the same table with Him, and that should give you access to the Kingdom?
How does this link over to our Christian lives? We often eat and drink Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, inside the church walls. We get up and go out the door. What happens next? Whatever happens next is up to you, but it displays whether you are obedient or not. When we are obedient to Him as we go on our way, we will come in contact with Him, for when we do His work, it is Him in us doing the work. If we do not do His work, we do not come in contact with Him. “Where I am, there My servant will be also” (John 12:26). Now, when we return to the house of God next week, He truly says, “I don’t know where you’ve been all week or where you’ve come from. I was over on Smith St and Long Rd and downtown and some country highway, and I didn’t see you any of those places.”
## Self-Check
The worst part about the Narrow Door Teaching is when Jesus explains who will enter. Those who look in expecting they’re chosen and do nothing will look in and realize they’re not going to be allowed, but those they judged unworthy will take a seat within. Those who are first will be last. Those who are last will be first.
