## Describe It

Trying to describe an event, person, or object to someone can be a difficult task. It's funny how we can listen to the description and picture something completely different than what is actually being told. An acquaintance once tried to describe me to their friend before they were to meet me. When we went out to eat, the friend was a bit perplexed and asked, "This is him?" Apparently, I was supposed to be about 7 feet tall and this giant guy. (To the reader that doesn't know me, I am 6'4 and about 330 lbs. as of this writing.) I'm not sure if me not being 7 feet tall was a letdown or not, but I'm sure the friend now knew the other could exaggerate a little bit. I think we all have done it a time or two, especially as kids. You know how kids talk about how their dads can lift 700 pounds when they probably can lift 100. Zacchaeus would have known about Jesus, not just because the news of Him was spreading in the area but one of the other tax collectors, Levi (or Matthew) had become a follower. He probably had heard about some of the miracles of Jesus or some things He had taught. When you hear things like that about a person and He is making His way near you, you want to see what all the fuss is about. I'm sure he wanted to see if the description was close to the truth or if the word around the street about Jesus was just a little exaggerated. We all had heard stories about Jesus at some point in our lives before we entered into a relationship with God. In fact, everyone probably has in the United States to some degree whether it's the

"Easter" story or "Christmas" story. Some descriptions are or could be wrong.

## Self-Check

The best way to find out who Jesus was and truly is should be to take the initiative and see for ourselves. Christianity isn't about a specific church or pastor, but about the person of Jesus. And in Jesus, we see who God truly is. Read through the other Gospels, and see for yourself, who He is and will always be.
