Blind Spots
“Then the whole company of them arose and brought him before Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man misleading our nation and forbidding us to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.” And Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.” Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.” But they were urgent, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, from”

## Can’t See
It doesn't matter who you are, we all have blind spots. When it comes to spirituality, sin distorts our view of the truth and gives us a lot of blind spots where we can easily miss what's behind or in front of us. These spots can create problems if we’re not allowing God, and godly council, to help fix them. One of my friends and mentors used to visit me in my office daily just to talk about life, and play video games. (I was in my 30’s and he was in his 50’s during this time, and yes, he taught me how to play Xbox.) Everyone knew of our friendship. In my office sat a whiteboard where we would both draw on as we discussed God, theology, life, and whatever else was on our mind. Sometimes another pastor at the church I was at, who was also a friend and mentor, would come join in the conversation or just drop by to listen. A handful of times we decided to open up and tell each other what we’re good at and what we need to work on, aka our blind spots. It wasn’t always easy to hear or digest, but it was needed in order to become a better person. Throughout the dealings between Jesus and the Pharisees, we see a slow build of this. There were a few that could see with some clarity that the works Jesus was doing had to be from God and God alone, but most of them were out to end Jesus.
## It Can’t Be
In the minds of the nation of Israel, the Messiah would arrive to bring Israel as the supreme nation and belittle the big guys known as Rome. When this didn't happen, then they began to wonder, “How can this guy really be the Messiah?” They thought He was a trickster trying to lure people away from God. This "whole company" mentioned in verse one, through hearing the words of Jesus and seeing the works He has done, are now full of blind spots. Jesus openly gave praise to God, which the Devil would not do. Jesus said to pay taxes to Caesar, though here they say He has prevented them from doing so through His teaching. And claimed to be a King. In all of the accusations being given to Pilate, he said, "I find no guilt in this man." In other words, there isn't enough evidence to prove their case and it's just a riot trying to end a man's life.
## Self-Check
The words of Christ, and all Scripture for that matter, are there not for agreement in our decisions or thoughts, but to realign those decisions and thoughts to reflect God. We can often zealously accuse wrongly because we have the wrong starting picture. Eternity with God is the final picture, and this should be the lens through which we view everything. It may mean for us to make a radical change in our life. Take time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any blind spots you may have, and bring truth and clarity in sight.
