Savior of the World
“And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.”

## Suffering Messiah
This is a Sunday lesson I’m still desperate to hear. I hope every word was recorded in heaven, so when I arrive, I can read it all; Jesus, the Bible Professor, preaching and interpreting the Scripture. This will really be a commentary with an inside scoop! He explained the suffering of the Christ starting with Moses’ writings. Did He explain to them the 3 day suffering of Abraham on his way to Moriah (Gen 22)? Did He teach that He is the bird killed over the water, and we are the bird set free (Leviticus 14)? Or that He is the slain goat of Yom Kippur, and we are the Azazel (Leviticus 16)? Did He explain David’s life in exile waiting for the throne many years even after his anointing (about 15 years) for the position (1 Samuel 1631; 2 Samuel 1-5)? That David (Psalms 22) and Isaiah (Isaiah 52) write of Him suffering? He is “Whom they have pierced” and the “Shepherd struck” (Zechariah 12-13). He is Daniel and Joseph, both enduring unwarranted suffering, but rising to the Right Hand of the king.
## Savior of the Age
Did He show them the hundreds of picture type symbols in Joseph’s story, and then point them towards his years of suffering in prison (Genesis 37-50)? Did they truly understand that Jesus is the true
## Zaphenath-Paneah (Genesis 41)?!
Zaphenath-Paneah has several possible translations, all very interesting when applied to his Jesus picture type. It can mean “Treasury of the Glorious Rest”, “Salvation”, “Savior of the Age”, and “Revealer of a Secret”. One explanation in a Greek text, along with Jerome’s Latin, adds the phrase “Savior of the World”!
But how long did Joseph wait to be raised up to this seat of power? As far as we can see from Scripture, he was still at home pasturing flocks with his brothers at seventeen (Genesis 37:2), and he was sold in that same chapter. Pharaoh gave him this position at thirty (Genesis 41:46). So the savior of the age suffered through slavery and wrongful imprisonment for 13 years! Foolish ones, slow of heart to believe the prophets! It was necessary that the Christ should suffer and enter into His Glory!
## Self-Check
It’s difficult for us to wait on God to move His Hand, especially when we’re waiting on Him to move us out of a hard place. We can hope for Him to bring promotion, but He deems when we are ready and if we need more time under subjection...even if the authority over us is seemingly “unrighteous”. Trust Him while you wait. He is the Glorious Rest. He is the Revealer of a Secret. He is the Savior of the World!
