Looking Back To See
“On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.” And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.””

## Stuff
Speaking of His revealing, Jesus reveals a little about the nature of stuff and the people we love. One thing I think is rather interesting about the Resurrection/Rapture event is the difference in the experience of the people involved in each. Those resurrected have experienced birth, life, and even death. Some of them grew up and married their high school sweetheart. Many had kids. Some buried kids. They died in war, through sickness, or old age in their beds. But a few moments later, they definitely knew what really mattered all through the life they just lived. But those raptured are still in mid swing! Some may be sitting in nursing homes with a full life behind them. Some are in their prime working hard and making money and going to their kids’ endless ballgames. Some are only kids still! One thing’s for sure. It can be super confusing to figure what’s important in this life while you’re still in the middle of it. Lot’s wife? She looked back longing for the life she was leaving. They were doing well in Sodom. Lot was well off. Business was good. They had a house and two lovely daughters. She couldn’t let go of all that, and 4,000 years later, she is infamous for her failure and loss. She just had to look back to see.
## People
Then Jesus speaks of people taken and the people they leave behind. There will be many half empty beds on the morning after the Rapture; and many half-filled churches on the next Sunday. I remember when God was calling me strongly to move on towards His plan for me. It involved leaving my church to find a church with a broader vision; outside its walls. My parents simply wouldn’t believe I would leave this church where I was truly loved and honored. I was a big fish there busy with many jobs. People listened to me and respected me. In me, God had truly raised up a nobody like Joseph from the prison. But I came to know that while loving these people and this church was good, if an attachment holds us back from following God, it is a sinful bondage… even if it is other believers in the Church.
