Not My Job

“When Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean. And when he learned that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him over to Herod, who was himself in Jerusalem at that time.”

## Lasting Results

Going to the workplace, we’re walking into particular positions. A certain job is expected of us. But all too often we stand beside someone who doesn’t want to be there. You may be that person! This becomes a greater problem when 70-80% of a team takes on this attitude. Yet too many people are simply going to their jobs to draw a paycheck. No matter what you do, the extent of your job usually crosses over into other areas of work. But what do you do when you come to that line? Most people have seen the photos involving the painted lines on a road over a dead animal. The caption at the bottom reads “Not My Job”, meaning, “It was my job to paint the lines on the road. It’s not my job to stop and get out and move rotting dead animal carcasses.”

## Pilate’s Results

In listening to the Jewish council accuse Jesus, Pilate caught the detail of Galilee mentioned. “Whew! Did you say Galilee? Now I don’t have to deal with this.” And the “Not My Job Award” goes to...Pilate! Pilate’s lasting results still echo through time to us now.

## Self-Check

Question — If the line painter had gotten out and moved the dead animal, would anyone know about it? Probably not. There wouldn’t be anything to see but a simple straight line; a job well done. Doing anything beyond our job is usually something that goes unnoticed. There are not any pats on the back or notoriety. Yet, after all is said and done, as the body of the squirrel is gone from the road line, the body of Christ is gone from the cross and the grave.

Want to be more Christ-Like? Jesus went beyond “Not My Job” just coming to earth. He took on extra work that wasn’t His to deal with; that being carrying the weight of the sin of the world. As an employee of Christ, will you go into the world today and just “draw a paycheck”, or will you go beyond what is required of you?
