Faith to Believe

“When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.””

## Believable

We read old stories in old books about things that are “normal”, and we have no problem believing what they say. So-and-so was born. He met so-and-so and was married. He was a farmer, a painter, an inventor, a revolutionists. She was a mother or an activist or an author or a war-time nurse. An Alexander the Great 1 biography records he won the battle of Gaugamela facing unbelievable odds against Darius, and we say “Wow!” Some reports say the Persians lost even up to 90,000 men while the Macedonians lost only 500! But we don’t say, “I question the accuracy of said recorded facts. Prove it to me.” We accept it in awe and respect the general and tactician he is reported to be. Though we can regard common records like this to be “facts”, they still literally take faith to believe they happened. You’re having faith in the person who recorded those facts.

## Faithable

Just let one of these old records say a man fed 5,000 people with almost nothing. Let it suggests He multiplied the food by blessing it to God. Even the average Christian who blesses their food at every meal has a hard time bringing this belief completely into their heart; that the

substance or quantity of the food has somehow changed. Let it say He casts out demons from people. The average American believes in spirits/demons. Many believe in casting magic circles and summoning spirits and then sending them out to do their wishes. But saying that this Man did it is harder to believe, because it carries harder implications! Matthew and Mark’s Gospels add the phrase that they will see Him coming with the clouds of heaven (Matthew 26:64; Mark14:62). It is no different for us now than it was for them. The Cloud Rider of Psalm 104 is none other than God Himself. The Lord is a Man of War and His right hand shatters the enemy (Exodus 15:3-6). But Who is

## His right hand?!

Psalm 80:17 But let your hand be on the man of your right hand, the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!

## Self-Check

The implications of His Words were overwhelming to the religious leaders of Israel. They had read, studied, and copied God’s Word for centuries, but now their desired outcome stood in front of them as a reality! Don’t read the Word of God daily, and close the book, walk out your door, and doubt it all. When you think you’re seeing the power of the right hand of God, take it all in. The Son of Man is the saving Messiah. May God bless you with faith to believe!
