Jesus’ Employees

“Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.””

## Careful, You Represent

Have you ever seen someone in a public place around your town and you think, “I know them, but where do I know them from?” Then you realize she’s a waitress at a well-known restaurant in that town everybody loves. She has been here long enough to become somewhat “famous” around there. Yet, when you see her out of uniform, you’re not 100% sure, so you ask, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” People had seen Peter walking around with Jesus for several years. He had become “famous” around these parts, but now seeing him on his own, not standing by Jesus’ side, was like seeing him out of uniform. Now if that waitress was extremely rude to you when she was off work, it would change your opinion on eating at that restaurant again. Whether the owner likes it or not, the actions of his employees off the clock can still affect his business. His employees represent him. It’s the same being a Christian. Once you’ve been associated as being a Christian, people look at you as a “Jesus Employee” in or out of uniform. The things you do and the way you act affect His business on earth.

## Employers’ Agenda

Luke 22:61 “...Peter remembered the saying of the Lord... ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.’” Some things we can’t take back, but the Lord forgives and takes us back. While the boss may think it best for his business to get rid of employees who do wrong, risky, or illegal things, Jesus is a different

kind of boss. An earthly boss is looking out for the image he wants his business to carry. Jesus is too. The odd thing is that it shows His business’ agenda to keep those who mess up their lives. Let that sink in.

## Self-Check

In a sense, we’re all bosses. We pick and choose who we’ll hang around depending on the image that we want to carry. We talk about being more like Jesus. Do you forgive the mistakes of others and keep association with them? That's what He does. Do you realize the forgiveness that’s been extended to you and the association that He maintained with you?
